This was the 30th year of the Bolder Boulder 10K run on Memorial Day. It has grown to over 50,000 runners and I was one
of them. The day was cool—perfect for running and there was a nice bonus for MLA. A last minute e-mail went out asking
for support both financial and from brother to brother. And a number of men did just that. I was very touched by this
and set a personal goal to run it faster than I had in 2007. Thank you Ron Hoffman and Mike Massa for taking the lead
on this.
I felt great approaching the finish and thought I had done it more quickly. I should have known better – I just been
passed at the 9.7 kilometer mark by a 6 year old and his Dad. After a few quick words, they left me in the proverbial
cloud of dust. My time ended up 34 seconds slower than a year ago, but I did finish 14th out of my age group (65 year olds)
in 54 minutes.
During the run and sitting in the CU stadium with thousands of people – you have time to think about all of the men and
women who have served our country and given their lives over the last 230 years. Too often we take this for granted. It is
a powerful reminder and I am glad to make the effort. And to thank my long dead father for his service in the Army Air Corps.
We raised over $5000 for MLA and I want to thank all of you who helped make this possible. And there is always next year –
when I hope to be able to shave off some of those extra seconds!
