In the 2nd Edition of ‘Stories of Men, Meaning and Prayer: The Reconciliation of Heart and Soul in Modern Manhood’, readers will find updated content, reflections and useful resources from an engaged participant, leader and elder of the men’s movement. From the early days of what is known as the mythopoetic men’s movement Jeffrey Duvall has been an engaging figure participating in the shoulder to shoulder work of guiding communities of men toward their heart and soul through a variety of programs and experiential workshops. His book ‘Stories of Men, Meaning and Prayer’ is an eyes-wide-open walk through the landscape of men’s work, and what it means to be a man engaged in all aspects of his life. First written in 2001, this book continues to be an inspiration for men who desire to be more fully engaged in their personal life, and with women who want to know more deeply how to love and support them. With praise for this book Robert Bly said, “There is no formula here-just stories. I like these tales very much”. Jeffrey Duvall is co-founder and co-director of The Men’s Council Project, Boulder, Colorado. Now called the Men’s Leadership Alliance, Jeffrey has provided wilderness based leadership training for adults, youth, and elders since 1985. He is a wilderness rites-of-passage guide and assists both individuals and groups in creating authentic and meaningful community rituals. He guides men’s gatherings around the country as an inquiry into the blossoming of heart, personal mythology, creative expression and healing. He is on staff at the School of Lost Borders, a wilderness rites-of-passage training organization in eastern California. Jeffrey works with the Institute for Social and Emotional Learning, which offers youth acknowledgment programs. While the “mythopoetic men’s movement” may not be a household term, the lessons, truths and rituals discussed within are timeless, and nourishment for a culture of men and women hungry for connection, grounded-ness and meaning.
