WHAT: A 4-part live, experiential online course for men designed to help you embrace and navigate current transitions in your life.
Life is a series of alternating stable and transition periods, both valid life stages that need reflection and attention, yet we are often taught that transition is merely a means to get from one life stage to the next.
Transition is a valid life stage in-and-of-itself. When left unacknowledged you can wander aimlessly for months or even years – still attached to who you use to be. Pervasive feelings of hopelessness, lack of purpose, and disconnection can lead to self-doubt, harsh self-criticism, and general dis-ease or depression.
In contrast, when transition periods are acknowledged, accepted, and embraced it can serve as a springboard into the next phase of your life. Hope can be found in the acceptance of the past as a pathway to understanding yourself better, and thus having a more solid ground to inform and direct your next life stage, and the rest of your life.
This course is designed for you to examine your past choices, reflect on the lessons and gifts from those choices, and gain clarity for the next steps ahead through learning to embrace the mystery of transition. Actively engaging with the seeming chaos of the unknown will help you arrive and transform into your new self with more ease, direction, purpose and joy.

WHERE: Live online via Zoom, a free video conferencing software (like Skype for groups). All classes will be recorded and available for you to watch on replay for up to 1 year.

This course is taught by Jason Geoffrion, PhD. He is a long-time men’s facilitator who has years of experience combining the theoretical study of men in their various life stages with the practical implementation of experiential activities that bring about change in men’s lives.

You have left behind who you used to be. You are not yet the new you.
This time can be scary and aimless, or exciting and hopeful, or all of that and everything in between.
Change is constant in life. Certain change events come to be expected–puberty, marriage, new jobs, births, empty nest, retirement, and so on. Other change events come upon us totally unaware and unexpected – accidents, job loss, divorce, deaths, and more.
And sometimes change isn’t ushered in by an event, but rather an internal feeling or sensation that who you are is no longer satisfactory or will no longer be enough to carry you into a compelling future.
Regardless of whether events are planned or not when these moments or sensations occur it requires change, and this change moves us from a stable period of life into a transition period. Change is about different actions needed due to new circumstances. Transitions occur as we bring consciousness to change.
Transition periods play a vital part in your development. Transition periods are for making structural changes (as opposed to stable periods, which are for building your life structure). Transition stages call for a termination of your existing life structure with the purpose to create the possibility for a new self in the next life stage. To engage in transition healthfully there are specific tasks that need to be met to move forward. These tasks first involve entering into unknown territory in order to let go of certain personas, identities, and behaviors from the past stable period. This shedding of the identity of the old self gives space then for the new self to emerge.
This is not just about searching job postings on the web, or getting out there and learning to mingle again, or finding a new hobby, or whatever tasks change seems to be calling for. Tasks on to-do lists are helpful and necessary steps, but only after you have a healthful and helpful perspective on who you were and who you are longing to become. To do this work takes introspection and self-examination that is best supported through the guidance of others.
Transition from one life stage to the next necessitates new internal awareness, which then leads to informed changes in social behavior and structure. These major changes in your life patterns require shifts in your identity and in the various ways you function.
Engaging with change and transition consciously both through and between the various life cycles brings transformation to your life.
To truly be transformed your work when in a transition period is to create a meaning-bridge between your old self and the new
(and begin to do so even before the new you is fully in sight).
Our job is to give you the scaffolding you need to move meaningfully in that direction.
As a guide, psychotherapist, life coach, teacher, and transition specialist over the last 20 years, Jason has felt a deep desire and hunger from men of all ages to have meaningful connection with themselves as masculine beings. And he has seen the dire ramifications when that connection is absent. Jason creates spaces for men to access their authentic selves and redefine their definitions of masculinity so they can be of better service to their families, communities, workplaces, and the world.
Jason has served as Executive Director and facilitator for Men’s Leadership Alliance for 10 years, and has guided men’s retreats, leadership retreats, father/son retreats and rites of passages for men and boys of all ages. He recently completed his doctoral work in human development. His dissertation is entitled Defining a Masculine Self: A Phenomenological Study on the Impact of Men’s Retreats.
